Hi everyone,
Here’s another writing sample from my untitled work-in-progress fantasy novel. As always, my WIP writing samples are for paid subscribers, so if you’d like to read what I’m sharing today, please consider upgrading.
I’ve been talking about this book for a long time and the truth is that it consumes me every day. Every morning I muster my energy and carve out a little time to either get some writing done or to at least plan for the next scene before I have to give my attention to my day job.
In the early evenings I settle in to write but usually by that point I’ve been sitting at my computer all day and I need to go out, walk the dog, or practice some kung-fu. But slowly… slowly, I’m making progress. And honestly, I love what I’m working on. I’m beyond excited to share the whole thing with you when the time is right.
At this point I’ve written nearly half a million words, split almost evenly between the actual book prose and the backstory, lore, outlines, notes, deleted scenes, and more. My word count of the book’s draft is currently around 225,000 words*, with an estimated goal of around 320,000.
(* I just realized that 225k is around the same number I shared in December. But I assure you I’ve made big progress. It’s just that I cut out a large chunk of text that wasn’t working anymore.)
What follows is a short scene from early in the novel that introduces several important characters. Enjoy!
